As part of a new pilot project, Ala’suinu passengers now have access to free Wi-Fi while travelling between the Island of Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. Stay connected, plan your next great adventure, chat with friends back home, or simply pass the time while you sail. Wi-Fi service is available on mobile devices, laptops, and tablets.

How do I connect?

Once onboard the Ala’suinu, connect to the network MAWIFI and begin browsing. No password is required to connect.

Why is this a temporary offering?

The pilot project allows us to test new internet connectivity systems and methods while at sea. This will enable us to collect data and feedback to improve future offerings.

Is it available when the Ala’suinu is sailing on the Gulf route?

Yes. This pilot project is offered on the Ala’suinu and is available on both the Gulf and Argentia routes.

What can I use the Wi-Fi for?

The service allows for internet browsing, low-resolution streaming, email, and messaging applications. It does not support high-resolution streaming or gaming.

Can I download movies?

We recommend passengers download movies and entertainment to their devices prior to travel or take advantage of our onboard on-demand entertainment service for a next-level experience.

Why can I not reach some websites and/or applications?

Marine Atlantic has implemented several security measures to protect our systems and passengers. Some sites and applications may be blocked for your safety and security or to reduce bandwidth utilization.

What is the per-device bandwidth allocation?

Each customer device can connect at 1Megabit.

Why isn’t there Wi-Fi on the Blue Puttees and Highlanders?

Currently, the Wi-Fi network aboard the Ala’suinu is a pilot project, and we are testing the necessary equipment. Over the next few months, we will evaluate what infrastructure we need to bring Wi-Fi to the Blue Puttees and the Highlanders.
