Marine Atlantic Joins Green Marine

With our continued commitment to making our operations more environmentally friendly, Marine Atlantic recently joined Green Marine, the largest voluntary environmental program for the maritime industry in North America.

Green Marine’s overall goal is achieving levels of environmental performance that exceed regulatory requirements in areas such as air/land/water emissions. There are currently more than 80 ship owners, port authorities, terminals and shipyards across Canada and the United States participating in the program.Green Marine’s certification process is rigorous and transparent and results are independently verified every two years with each company’s individual results being published. More than 40 environmental groups and government departments/agencies have endorsed and help shape the environmental program.

Marine Atlantic has already made significant investments in new infrastructure and technologies that show our commitment to the environment including our new terminal building in North Sydney scheduled to open this spring. This building will be LEED certified, a leader in environmental and energy efficient design.

We are pleased to be part of such a worthwhile environmental initiative and look forward to continue working with others in the marine industry to further improve our environmental performance.
