Marine Atlantic Makes Adjustment to 2021 Rates
The COVID-19 pandemic has placed a significant burden on the Canadian economy. The Government of Canada continues to implement measures to support the return of a strong economy.
Given the impact COVID-19 has had on the Newfoundland and Labrador economy, Marine Atlantic has decided to roll back the 2021 rate increase as part of the ongoing efforts to enable a strong return for the economy.
For customers who currently have reservations or travelled since the 2021 rates came into effect on April 1, 2021, they will receive a credit or refund for the difference in the cost.
Marine Atlantic is an essential link in the supply chain for this region and is committed to being a safe, efficient, and reliable economic enabler for the region.
Updating Our Approach to Scheduling and Rates
February 1, 2021 - Marine Atlantic
Our team has adapted to the realities of the pandemic and continue to focus on providing safe and healthy travel. We are also looking beyond the challenges of today and planning for when our customers begin evaluating their travel plans post COVID-19.
An initial step was our recent move to a rolling schedule that is providing our customers with the opportunity to book over a year in advance of their travel. Customers requested this option to enable them to make their booking early in their planning process.
With our change to a rolling schedule, customers pay the rates posted at the time of their booking. Customers will only be subject to new fares if adjustments are made to an existing reservation after a new rate structure has been implemented.
With the possibility of differing rate structures in effect based upon the time of booking, annual rate adjustments will no longer be tied to the release of the schedule. Marine Atlantic’s website will always have the most up-to-date information providing customers with rate information they need to make their decisions. As always, we encourage customers to make their reservations early to secure the dates and amenities that best meet their travel plans.
Effective today, reservations for travel after April 1 include the following updates:
- Gulf route - increase of 2% for commercial fares. No increases to passenger fares or passenger vehicle fares.
- Argentia – North Sydney - increase of 2.5% for passenger and commercial fares.
- Drop Trailer Management Fee - increase of 3.4% on both routes.
We are committed to serving our customers and meeting your needs in an effective and efficient manner. We would like to thank everyone for your continued efforts in helping to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and we look forward to continuing to provide you with a safe, efficient, and reliable service.
