The MV Holiday Island

Marine Atlantic, its predecessor CN Marine, and pre-confederation Newfoundland coastal boats have a strong and proud history serving the people of Atlantic Canada through ferry terminals, passenger vessels and rail service.

In this week’s blog posting we highlight the MV Holiday Island which serviced the Prince Edward Island-New Brunswick crossing from 1971-1997.

Similar to its sister ship, the MV Vacationland, the vessel was high speed with open vehicle decks to increase available capacity when it was introduced to the service. Both vessels were built specifically for summer tourism traffic which was evident by their names. Designed to help manage increasing traffic volumes to Prince Edward Island, it made the loading and unloading process more efficient and helped manage and transport the increased number of tourists wanting to visit the popular Island destination.
