The MV Northern Ranger

Marine Atlantic, its predecessor CN Marine, and pre-confederation Newfoundland coastal boats have a strong and proud history serving the people of Atlantic Canada through ferry terminals, passenger vessels and rail service.

In this week’s blog posting we highlight the MV Northern Ranger which serviced coastal Newfoundland and Labrador communities for Marine Atlantic from 1986-1997.

Named in honour of the SS Northern Ranger that serviced coastal Newfoundland and Labrador communities from 1936-1966, The MV Northern Ranger was specifically designed to transport passengers and freight. A vessel with ice-breaking capabilities, it could carry over 100 passengers and up to 100 tons of freight per crossing.
