Proud of our History - Moncton Head Office

Marine Atlantic, its predecessor CN Marine, and pre-confederation Newfoundland coastal boats have a strong and proud history serving the people of Atlantic Canada through ferry terminals, passenger vessels and rail service.

With responsibility for the Newfoundland Gulf service, Newfoundland Coastal service, Northumberland Strait service, Bay of Fundy service and Nova Scotia-Maine service, Marine Atlantic was established as a federal Crown Corporation in 1986 with its head office located in Moncton, New Brunswick. Operating as the Corporation’s regional base for 12 years, the head office was re-located to St. John’s, N.L., following the federal government’s decision to focus Marine Atlantic’s mandate on providing the Newfoundland-Nova Scotia service.

As always, we welcome your photos for posting in a future blog. Please email your photos to [email protected]  including any facts such as the date and location.

In next week’s blog posting, we highlight the SS Home, a vessel that served Newfoundland and Labrador coastal communities from 1900-1948.
