Proud of our History- the MV Frederick Carter
Marine Atlantic, its predecessor CN Marine, and pre-confederation Newfoundland coastal boats have a strong and proud history serving the people of Atlantic Canada through ferry terminals, passenger vessels and rail service.
Named in honour of Frederick Carter, one of Newfoundland’s original fathers of confederation in the 1860s, the vessel’s ability to transport large amounts of freight changed the ferry service dramatically and how goods were shipped to and from Newfoundland.
We hope you enjoy these photos which highlight a changing era in Gulf ferry service and a vessel with a long record of service between Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia.
As always, we welcome your photos for posting in a future blog. Please email your photos to [email protected] including any facts such as the date and location.
Next week, we highlight the original MV Bluenose which served the Yarmouth, NS to Bar Harbour, ME route from 1955-1982.
