Proud of our History - MV Hopedale

Marine Atlantic, its predecessor CN Marine, and pre-confederation Newfoundland coastal boats have a strong and proud history serving the people of Atlantic Canada through ferry terminals, passenger vessels and rail service.

Named after the Labrador community of the same name, the MV Hopedale served coastal communities from Placentia Bay to Labrador during its years in service. One of the new-build vessels ordered by the Government of Canada following Confederation, the MV Hopedale was designed to upgrade and strengthen the new province’s ferry service.

As always, we welcome your photos for posting in a future blog. Please email your photos to [email protected] including any facts such as the date and location.

In next week’s blog posting, we highlight the Grand Manan ferry service which was operated through a former Marine Atlantic subsidiary company in the 1980s and 1990s.
