Proud of our History - the MV Marine Atlantica
Marine Atlantic, its predecessor CN Marine, and pre-confederation Newfoundland coastal boats have a strong and proud history serving the people of Atlantic Canada through ferry terminals, passenger vessels and rail service.
Introduced to help transport more commercial and passenger traffic, the vessel increased passenger capacity by approximately 24 percent. At 122 metres in length, the MV Marine Atlantica, combined with its sister ship the MV Marine Nautica, tripled commercial capacity on the Cabot Strait when introduced.
We hope you enjoy these photos of a vessel that helped re-shape the flow of commercial traffic between Newfoundland and Nova Scotia.
As always, we welcome your photos for posting in a future blog. Please email your photos to [email protected] including any facts such as the date and location.
In next week’s blog posting, we highlight the SS Charlottetown which serviced the Prince Edward Island-New Brunswick crossing from 1931-1941.
