Proud of our History – the MV Marine Runner

Marine Atlantic, its predecessor CN Marine, and pre-confederation Newfoundland coastal boats have a strong and proud history serving the people of Atlantic Canada through ferry terminals, passenger vessels and rail service.

Similar to its sister ship the MV Marine Sprinter, the vessel received the nickname “Tiajuana Taxi” or “Seagoing Bus” because of the speed it could travel between coastal communities. At 94 feet in length and the ability to carry up to 68 passengers per trip, it was faster than any of the vessels that previously serviced remote communities along the south coast of Newfoundland.

As always, we welcome your photos for posting in a future blog. Please email your photos to [email protected] including any facts such as the date and location.

In next week’s blog posting, we highlight the SS Dundee which serviced Newfoundland coastal communities from 1900-1919.
