Proud of our History – the MV Stena Jutlandica/ second MV Bluenose
Marine Atlantic, its predecessor CN Marine, and pre-confederation Newfoundland coastal boats have a strong and proud history serving the people of Atlantic Canada through ferry terminals, passenger vessels and rail service.
Entering service in 1982 between Port aux Basques and North Sydney, the vessel was the largest passenger ferry to operate on the Cabot Strait at that time. It’s time travelling between Newfoundland and Nova Scotia was short as the following year the MV Stena Jutlandica was re-assigned to the Yarmouth-Bar Harbor service. The vessel was also re-named in honour of the original MV Bluenose that it was replacing on that route. With new upgrades, the vessel was turned into a cruise ferry which attracted increased interest, especially U.S. tourists wanting to make the trip to Nova Scotia.
