Proud of our History - the MV Stena Nordica

Marine Atlantic, its predecessor CN Marine, and pre-confederation Newfoundland coastal boats have a strong and proud history serving the people of Atlantic Canada through ferry terminals, passenger vessels and rail service.

Introduced to help meet the significant growth in freight and passenger traffic being experienced to and from Newfoundland in the mid-1970s, the vessel was 122 metres in length and could travel at speeds of up to 17 knots. With the capacity to carry upwards of 1000 passengers and over 250 vehicles per crossing, it transported thousands of tourists during its years in service.
