Proud of our History - the MV Taverner

Marine Atlantic, its predecessor CN Marine, and pre-confederation Newfoundland coastal boats have a strong and proud history serving the people of Atlantic Canada through ferry terminals, passenger vessels and rail service.

The vessel was named in memory of Bejamin Taverner, the Captain of the SS Caribou, and his two sons Harold and Stanley who perished when the vessel was sunk by a German U-boat during the Second World War.

Noted as a vessel with flexibility and manoeuvrability, it was a steadfast ship that was an important link between Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, and to isolated coastal communities for many years.

We hope you enjoy these photos of a long serving and respected vessel in Marine Atlantic’s historical fleet.
