Proud of our History - the MV Vacationland
Marine Atlantic, its predecessor CN Marine, and pre-confederation Newfoundland coastal boats have a strong and proud history serving the people of Atlantic Canada through ferry terminals, passenger vessels and rail service.
When introduced to the service, the vessel was high speed with open vehicle decks to increase available capacity. The vessel, and its sister ship the MV Holiday Island, were built specifically for summer tourism traffic which was evident by their names.
Designed to help manage increasing traffic volumes to Prince Edward Island, it made the loading and unloading process more efficient and helped manage and transport the increased number of tourists wanting to visit the popular Island destination.
We hope you enjoy these photos of a unique and popular vessel on the Prince Edward Island-New Brunswick service.

In next week’s blog posting, we highlight the original SS Bruce, the first vessel to make the Port aux Basques-North Sydney crossing serving from 1898 to 1911.
