Proud of our History - the North Sydney Terminal
Marine Atlantic, its predecessor CN Marine, and pre-confederation Newfoundland coastal boats have a strong and proud history serving the people of Atlantic Canada through ferry terminals, passenger vessels and rail service.
Originally chosen as the main port connecting Canada and the Dominion of Newfoundland, the geographical and historical connection between Newfoundland and North Sydney has strengthened through the decades. For over 115 years, passenger and freight vessels have docked in this Cape Breton community helping connect families, allowing supplies to flow and make vacations more enjoyable.
We hope you enjoy these photos of a changing terminal, community and landscape that has played a major role in connecting the countries of Canada and Newfoundland, and the provinces of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador.
As always, we welcome your photos for posting in a future blog. Please email your photos to [email protected] including any facts such as the date and location.
In next week’s blog posting, we highlight the MV John Hamilton Gray which serviced the Prince Edward Island-New Brunswick and the Newfoundland-Nova Scotia routes from 1968-1997.
