Proud of our History - the SS Patrick Morris
Marine Atlantic, its predecessor CN Marine, and pre-confederation Newfoundland coastal boats have a strong and proud history serving the people of Atlantic Canada through ferry terminals, passenger vessels and rail service.
Named in honour of the well-known 19th century Newfoundland politician, the SS Patrick Morris was a large vessel that significantly increased freight capacity on the Gulf service in the 1960s. During its time in operation, the vessel carried both railway freight cars, as well as regular containers.
We hope you enjoy these photos of a vessel that changed and helped shape how commercial products were shipped to the Island of Newfoundland.
