Proud of our History - The tugboat Taskall

Marine Atlantic, its predecessor CN Marine, and pre-confederation Newfoundland coastal boats have a strong and proud history serving the people of Atlantic Canada through ferry terminals, passenger vessels and rail service.

Built in 1958 to help the operations of the Newfoundland Dockyard which was owned and operated by Canadian National (CN) at the time, the tugboat Taskall helped guide vessels destined for the dockyard in and out of St. John’s harbour. Weighing 28 gross tonnes and measuring 42 feet in length, the tugboat was recognized as an important and familiar vessel on the St. John’s waterfront for several decades. The vessel remained part of Marine Atlantic’s service until the Newfoundland Dockyard was sold in 1997.
