St. Anthony, NL

Marine Atlantic, its predecessor CN Marine, and pre-confederation Newfoundland coastal boats have a strong and proud history serving the people of Atlantic Canada through ferry terminals, passenger vessels and rail service.

In this week’s blog posting we highlight St. Anthony, NL, which had a historical attachment to Marine Atlantic and its predecessors until 1997.

A strategically located port at the tip of Newfoundland’s northern peninsula, St. Anthony was an important destination for coastal vessels serving remote communities along the Newfoundland and Labrador coastline. With a strong historical connection to the sea dating back to the early 16th century, and recognized for its importance by people such as Jacques Cartier and Sir Wilfred Grenfell, this hearty community has been a gateway for people and supplies for hundreds of years.
