Travelling with children on Marine Atlantic

The weather is finally warming up and it is the perfect time to book your summer travel with Marine Atlantic. For anyone travelling with children, Marine Atlantic is committed to making sure your crossing is a pleasant and comfortable one.

In preparation for your journey, here are a few helpful reminders and tips to keep in mind when travelling with children.

Identification – Don’t forget your ID! Children under 5 years of age do not require identification while travelling with Marine Atlantic, but passengers aged 5-18 require either one piece of government-issued identification with a photograph, or two pieces without a photo.

Entertainment – There is lots for your children to do while travelling on our vessels. In addition to exploring the ferry and watching the waves, Marine Atlantic offers a play area for small children and internet kiosks. Please note that Wi-Fi is not available onboard our vessels so we recommend you download your child’s favorite movie or game to your laptop, iPad, or phone prior to the crossing.

Food – We have plenty of dining options onboard our vessels, so you are sure to find something to please even the pickiest eater. For a quick bite, check out the Barista Café on Deck 7 of the MV Highlanders and MV Blue Puttees. If you are travelling on the MV Atlantic Vision, the buffet service provides a wealth of options to choose from.

Vehicle Access – Don’t forget your Teddy! For your safety and security, access to the vehicle decks is prohibited during the crossing.  Therefore, we remind you that any beloved toys or favorite snacks should be taken with you when you exit your vehicle.

Motion Sickness Medication – If your child is prone to motion sickness, please purchase motion sickness medication prior to sailing. Marine Atlantic is not permitted to sell motion sickness medication onboard as it must be obtained from an authorized pharmacy.

Cameras – Don’t forget to bring your camera along with you for the sailing! Many of our passengers have captured great snaps of sunsets, whales and dolphins during their travels with us.

Tweet us your favourites to @maferries.

We can’t wait to see you and your family onboard. And we bet your kids won’t even ask “are we there yet” because they will be having too much fun at sea!
