Request for Proposals Issued for the Construction of a New Terminal Building in North Sydney
Marine Atlantic announced today that two Requests for Proposal (RFP) documents have been issued for the proposed construction of a new terminal building at the Corporation's North Sydney terminal property. Interested contractors have until June 10, 2013, to submit their documentation for the site works contract, and June 24, 2013, to submit their documentation for the terminal works contract. The RFP documents can be accessed through Marine Atlantic's website or MERX, a federal government tendering site.
The proposed new terminal building will be constructed at a location on the opposite side of the marshalling yard from the existing terminal building, adjacent to downtown businesses. The new building will be modern, efficient, environmentally friendly, and offer new amenities such as a commercial driver seating lounge area. It will also offer customers closer access to North Sydney business amenities.
"The proposed new terminal building is another piece of the significant upgrades that are moving forward at Marine Atlantic as part of our ongoing renewal agenda," said Paul Griffin, President and CEO of Marine Atlantic. "Significant work and investment is taking place at all three of our ports to help us with our journey of becoming a modern and efficient corporation offering a high level of customer service. As a result of these investments, customers will experience improved facilities that will better serve their needs."
North Sydney projects including the construction of a new stevedore building, renovations to the docks, upgrading and expanding the marshalling yard, and improving the electrical infrastructure system have been ongoing for the past several months. In addition, a new administration and warehouse facility has officially opened at 65 Memorial Drive.
"Our customers have already experienced significant improvement as a result of our renewal program. We will continue with this agenda of positive change through additional infrastructure investments and business process renewal that will further strengthen our service. We look forward to the benefits our new terminal building will offer to our customers, employees and the local community."
The Government of Canada's 5-year investment in Marine Atlantic is facilitating the Corporation's revitalization program designed to better serve customers through fleet renewal, shore-based infrastructure renewal and business process change.
